Hillsdale Business & Professional Association Welcome to the web page of HPBA, serving businesses and professionals of the Hillsdale Neighborhood in Portland, Oregon, since 1973.
More than 60 local businesses and professionals are members of the HBP. Our members meet monthly to discuss a wide range of issues ranging from parking to beautification to relations with nearby schools.
Often government officials address our group, informing us of civic developments affecting commercial life in Hillsdale. In return, we tell them issues of concern.
Hillsdale is a Metro-designated Town Center, which has agreed to accept higher residential building densities in order to take pressure off the Metro urban growth boundary. Because Hillsdale is served by nine bus routes, it is hoped that increased density and population won't contribute to traffic congestion.
In June 2010, Hillsdale's Town Center was named a Main Street District, one of three in Portland. As a Main Street District, we are pursuing a program to revitalize our business district through design, promotion and economic restructuring. Our district, like others in Portland, has a strong sustainability component.
In the mid-nineties, a group of active citizens, including many of our members, drafted a Town Center Plan that was accepted by the Portland City Council. Much of our efforts have been directed to realizing improvements outlined in the plan. Foremost among our success has been the establishment of a thriving Hillsdale Sunday Farmers Market. Others included new sidewalks and street trees.

In June, Hillsdale's commercial district was named one of three Main Street districts in Portland. Like the other two Portland program, the Hillsdale Main Street effort will have five components: economic restructuring, design, promotion, organization and sustainability.
